Community gathers for funeral of Hamilton Township 4-year-old

Community gathers for funeral of Hamilton Township 4-year-old

Six days after his death, Emerie Shandorf-Wood was buried. After a short search on Sunday, the four-year-old was found lifeless in a pond near her Hamilton Township home. Hamilton Township Police Chief Scott Hughes remembers the grief over the tragic discovery. “The moment we found her, just thinking about it. These are pictures you won’t forget.” Lisa Hilton was one of the hundreds of people who lined Montgomery Road for the funeral procession. “It means a lot. I have grandchildren this age, and it breaks your heart,” said Hilton. “When I first saw that they were looking for her, there was a surge from all quarters.” This outpouring continued six days after the research ended as hundreds gathered in the community’s Baptist church. Others, like Krista Kavanaugh, chose to travel the 5 mile road to Gate Of Heaven cemetery. Kavanaugh said. Balloons and ribbons in blue, teal and purple, Emerie’s favorite colors, flowered cars and traffic signs, celebrating the young lost life. A farewell to a little girl who was going to go back to school this week, a tragedy near us.
