Death notice of Gary Massicotte (1957 – 2021) – Hartford, CT

Gary Allen Massicotte, 63, died peacefully on September 10 in Bristol, Connecticut, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born at Southington Hospital on November 9, 1957, to his late father Frederick Massicotte, II., And to his mother Mr. Therese (Benson) Massicotte. Gary was the loving husband of Angela (Fitzgerald) Massicotte, for 38 years, whom he married on April 8, 1983. Gary’s kindness, honesty, infectious sense of humor and friendship were known to exist of all. He showed great dedication to his family, which he was most proud of in his entire life. He was a devoted husband, who admired and supported his wife Angela, and a loving father and grandfather to son Miles, daughter Madison, and grandson Aleksander. For 30 years Gary worked as a cabinet maker at H&B Woodworking in Plainville, and before that he ran his own Bristol Refinishing business in Bristol for 7 years. Gary was proud of his excellent work as a cabinetmaker and expert. He was highly regarded by his colleagues and his work takes place in the homes of notable people and celebrities. Examples of his art can be viewed at: https://tinyurl.com/garyswork. Outside of his family, Gary’s greatest love was music. Since his childhood Gary listened to, read and absorbed as much music as possible from the radio, magazines, and attended concerts, especially jazz. Once he discovered drums, he was inseparable from it and played jazz drums for the rest of his life, including with jazz icon Fletcher Henderson. His tastes were varied and he shared his love of jazz, fusion and other genres with everyone he knew. Her love of music lives on in her children, in whose lives music and art remain an important part. Perhaps it was his love of music that made Gary such a great listener and conversationalist. Anyone who had the pleasure of speaking with Gary immediately felt his passion for whatever was discussed. He always had something interesting to say and was able to intelligently and intellectually discuss any topic with anyone. He’s the kind of person you want to talk to for hours on end. The strength in Gary that he showed after his diagnosis has been an inspiration to his family and loved ones. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Gary is survived by his wife Angela (Fitzgerald) Massicotte of Bristol; his son Miles Massicotte and his wife Hristina Blagoeva of NM and his daughter Madison Massicotte of MA; his grandson Aleksander Blagoev-Massicotte of NM; his brother Frederick Massicotte, III and his wife Robin of Coventry; sisters Jennifer Pension from AL and Joan Brewster from Bristol; sister-in-law Kim Massicotte of Burlington, brothers-in-law Frederick Fitzgerald and wife Kathy of Bristol, and Thomas Fitzgerald and wife Elizabeth of Southington; her sister-in-law Donna Benzinger and her husband Robert of Cromwell.
