The National Directorate of Employment provided the beneficiaries of the environmental beautification training program in Enugu State with funds and other equipment.
During Tuesday’s disbursement/resettlement ceremony, Enugu State Coordinator, NDE, Donatus Azuibuike, who represented the agency’s Managing Director, Abubakar Fikpo, disclosed that trained beneficiaries are empowered so that they also empower others.
According to the agency, the lucky beneficiaries received cash and equipment such as wheelbarrows, water pumps, chop saws, hammers, screwdrivers, pipes, plastic molds among others to enable them to get started with their newly acquired skills.
Azuibuike said, “If we train you without empowering you, you will go back to what you were, but it is good that we install those who have undergone the training.
“I charge you to make good use of the equipment given to you to start earning money with it. We hope you will also train others to reduce unemployment in the country.
The agency added that the beneficiaries were trained on hard and soft landscaping as well as how to make POPs including horticulture by the Special Department of Public Works of the Directorate.
The Director of SPW, Department of Abuja, Ms. Roseline Olawole, urged the beneficiaries to make wise use of the cash and equipment as they were not given for free but are expected to repay soon.
Olawole, represented by Mr. Kenneth Okafor of the SPW department, said, “Try to train more people in the skills you have learned.”
